Project Lead – Dr. Melanie Wong

Reading assessment continues to be an important part of daily classroom practice. However, many teachers are ill equipped to assess their students’ reading.
In an attempt to support teachers, especially those in rural and remote locations, funding from the DPL Grant will be used to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) reading assessment tool prototype. This tool will be able to perform a miscue analysis of a student’s reading using imputed text and assess reading comprehension. This robust tool will then analyze the students overall reading abilities and provide their teacher with teach strategies and suggestions.
Agreements are in place with the Vancouver School Board (VSB) to test the pilot in their classrooms. Thanks to the support from VSB, the project team will be able to test the effectiveness of their tool and make adjustments and upgrades before making it publicly available.
Edith Lando VLC is excited to support this amazing project and we look forward to seeing the outcomes.
