Literacies Today: A Framework for Multiliteracies, Multimodalities, and AI

 

Participants

All British Columbia public and independent school K-8 educators, school and district administrators, district literacy leads, directors, and superintendents.

Registration cost is FREE thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Edith Lando Virtual Learning Centre.

Deadline: Friday, October 4th for all participants


Program Focus

  • Grounded in EDIDA frameworks and work
  • Differentiated instruction
  • Based in best-practice multiliteracy and multimodality pedagogy
  • Delivered through the progression of literacy stages (Introduction to Multiliteracies and Multimodalities, Emergent Literacy, Early Reading, Transitional, Fluent, Bringing it altogether) and big ideas
  • Modeling best practice literacy instruction using explicit scenarios, case studies, exemplars and examples, anchor texts, and delivered by expert(s) in the area.
    Culturally Responsive AI integration for teaching and learning, and planning and assessment practices
  • Repository of Resources (OER)

Skills and Competencies

  • Expand educator expertise in critical literacy instruction
  • Network with professionals across the province
  • Become familiar with critically responsive resources (i.e., AI tools and Generative AI)
  • Build metacognitive reflexivity and responsivity to provincial, local and personal contexts
  • Gain greater understanding of the progression of multiliteracy competencies

*Successful completion will result in a collaborative school board and University of British Columbia certificate and faculty written letter of support.

Information for Literacy Leads

Literacy leads will support the program by:

  • Onboarding stakeholders from their district/school team, following up with implementation in classrooms, and providing updates about team successes
  • Leading their literacy team through sessions
  • Coordinating collaborative meeting spaces for synchronous sessions and asynchronous discussion forums and online conversations
  • Providing feedback to the facilitators to ensure responsive execution of content
  • Participating in synchronous online meetings, please see schedule below for meeting dates
  • Participating in focus groups and data collection
  • Coordinating sharing of literacy learning journey at July 3rd celebration
