Edith Lando VLC is proud to present the fall 2023 Faculty of Education Reading Group. Meeting online (and maybe in person!) every three weeks, the group will discuss 2-3 articles or 1 book. Sessions will be hosted by Professor Jennifer Jenson, who will begin the series with a few selections. Participants will also have the opportunity to share challenging and/or new reading materials and lead the discussion.

Meet Your Host
Dr. Jennifer Jenson, Professor LLED
Dr. Jenson is a Professor of Digital Languages, Literacies & Culture in the Faculty of Education’s Department of Language and Literacy Education. She also teaches in the Master of Educational Technology (MET) program and supports and contributes to numerous other programs and initiatives such as the Make, Play, Connect series as well as the Digital Learning Pedagogies – Tool & Methods for Educators. Dr. Jenson is co-editor of Loading: The Journal of the Canadian Game Studies Association and a past, long serving President of the Canadian Game Studies Association.
Prior to joining UBC in 2019, Dr. Jenson spent 18 years at York University in Toronto, Ontario (Canada), where she was a Professor in the Faculty of Education and Director of the Institute for Research on Digital Learning.
Dr. Jenson has also designed a series of Educational games, working with Professor Suzanne de Castell (UBC) and a team of students in her CFI-funded Play:CES (Play in Computer Environments) lab including: “Contagion”, “Epidemic: Self-Care for Crisis”, a Baroque music game in collaboration with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra in Toronto, and an iPad game for early readers, Compareware.
She has published widely on education, technology, gender, design and development of digital games, and technology policies and policy practices in K-12 schooling. She also has considerable experience working with teachers in relation to technology, pedagogy and curriculum, and authored a report for the Ontario Ministry of Education entitled “21st Century Skills, Technologies and Learning“ as well as completed a significant research project on games and learning for the Council of Ontario Directors of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. She has also worked with school boards, colleges, and technology companies to support the integration and implantation of technologies in the K-12 sector and post-secondary sectors and she has considerable experience designing online learning experiences in higher education.
